This tape is a collage of recordings I made during a 3 week stay at the little village of Abrantes, in the summer of 2013. A few months later, during a conversation with a dearest friend, I realized that during this retreat from urban life in Brussels, I reached a state which was much alike to that from a child. Time was relative — everyday consisted out of the same routine of actions —, immersed in a specific unfunctionality. Each thought, idea or emotion was nothing more then a lead to the next, without pretending truth nor falseness. In normal live, contraposed to this state, each idea, thought or emotion is immediately used, which gives it a direct goal, and, foremost, a right to exist. In Abrantes, everything that went through me stayed vague, the right to exist became sui generis.
This piece is composed out of associative texts, found sounds and tape manipulations. It is the after image of a detached state of being, which was characterized by learning to watch again — like I could as a child; a period in which I read, drank and eat. It was in this isolation that the part lost during the hard period 2012-13, got refilled with Suadade.
It’s dedicated to the beautiful João, his beautiful sis Mariana, and their friends Boris, Zé, Ines and the Gang. A special appreciation goes to Susan Sontag, Oğuz Atay and Pedro. Special swami to the brain and soul behind Meat Based Leftovers.
